How much do you think my chances are lowered at Ivies because of imperfect GPA & class rank, but excellent SAT, EC's, class rigor, essays & recs?

I'm bored and curious about your opinions.

What do you mean by “imperfect?” If by imperfect, you mean a 3.5 to 3.8, then you’re probably okay. On the other hand, if you mean a 2.5, then you have a problem.

A 3.5 unweighted GPA at a typical public school will significantly hurt your chance; your transcript is the most important factor in admissions. A weak GPA is the hardest aspect of an application to overcome.

But yes, you need to clarify what you mean by “imperfect.” I doubt you mean it in the literal sense.

3.74 UW, 4.47 W, Top 2% or so at a public h.s
Are my chances shot? I mean, looking at admitted students’ stats, it seems like it’s all 3.9’s & 4.0’s…

Is your high school nationally recognized as a top school? Is there an upward trend? Exactly how strong are your other factors?

Nahh. don’t focus all of your attention on CC admitted stats. I’ll admit that it makes it a little harder, but - I’m assuming your school uses a 4.0 scale - I still think that’s pretty good, and your chances definitely aren’t shot. If it makes you feel better, I know two kids going to Cornell and one going to Princeton - yes, Princeton - with a GPA around yours. Of course, I don’t know their other stats, but yours seem to be fine. Not saying that you’ll get in, because no one can guarantee that; however, it’s certainly possible.

Steep upward trend… 9th: 3.4, 2/5 H’s taken, 10th: 3.71, All H’s, 11th: 4.0, 4 AP’s, 2 H’s
SAT: 2340

The upward trend helps significantly (it’s the primary way to help mitigate the negative effect of a somewhat subpar GPA). You’re looking solid.

Wow, that gives me some hope :] thanks

okay, good! I’m not unrealistic, btw. I know I have a tiny shot and I’d be happy to go to many other schools.
