How much does McGill actually cost? (American) [Engineering]

So my parents really want me to go to my flagship state school, which is University of Connecticut, which offers the same education/knowledge as most other schools (excluding ivies) without having to pay a quarter of a million dollars for undergraduate studies. Right now the price for University of Connecticut is around $20,000 or $15,000 with some discounts.

My parents seem keen on Uconn becuase of the quality and price, but I applied to McGill for one of its very good benefits: its one of the cheaper colleges in a city. From what I see on the internet, the price for undergraduate is $20,000 without room/board, and depending on the major, it costs even more. I am looking into engineering, which has a different price than something like arts.

What is the actual price that you (current engineer at McGill) payed in total? Is it around $30,000? Is it relatively close to University of CT's cost? This is the only thing that is holding me back from other decisions other than Uconn...

For international students (i.e. Americans and other non-Canadians), the undergraduate tuition and fees for 2010-2011 are: $23,785.56 (which is in Canadian dollars, so slightly less in US$ but subject to change as the exchange rate changes). Of the $23785.56, the tuition is $21 600 and the remainder is an assortment of fees.

If you choose to live in residence, the room fee is between about $6500 and $8000 for the 8 months that school runs. Most residences have a mandatory meal plan which is over $5000. So most people who live in residence pay around $12000 to $14000 for their room and board. It is actually cheaper to rent your own place and cook your own food as opposed to living in residence. In any case, only first years live in residence (unless you are a residence assistant in your upper years).
