I’m in my sophomore year of high school, and I got a B in AP Calculus BC. It was an 88, so a B+ but nevertheless a B. Two questions: 1) does GPA round up? If I get A’s on the rest of my classes for high school, I should be able to achieve a 4.0 unweighted GPA. 2) How much will the matter for my chances in college admissions? Especially towards top colleges and ivies. Thanks!
IMO, if you have a stellar application - near 4.0 unweighted GPA, excellent SATS, meaningful extracurriculars, a hook - that isolated B+ has absolutely no impact on your chances at top level universities.
It means zero, zip, nada. Even versus kids with all As. Stop worrying.
A B in AP Calc BC, per se, doesn’t hurt. You are a sophomore taking that course which brings up other issues. Did you take the AP exam? Your score in that, along with the B will be eyeballed. What Re you going to do next in terms of mathematics?
I know a number of kids who got Cs even on AP Calc BC and got into HPY And bombed the AP exam or didn’t bother to take it, for that matter. But they were SENIORS. They had great applications and that was the last bit of their high school stuff and they were accepted before those second term grades and AP results were out.
You have two years to go, to show what you can do.
