I have a bad GPA, looking to get a 2300 SAT. Does SAT have a small/or large impact?

I’m surprised this didn’t get any replies. I’m interested as well.

I probably don’t have a very accurate opinion to give you, but it might help clarify to others if you said exactly how bad you think your GPA is…as that could encompass a wide range of numbers. Your “bad” GPA might be someone elses dream GPA. 2300 SAT would be pretty amazing for anyone. And what specific colleges within CMU are you trying to get into? That makes a big difference.
Good Luck!

I am pretty ****ty student all around. Actually, i don’t even know why I bothered to ask. I am not getting in.

Rigor is horrible (no APs- Fresh- Junior). One AP in senior and 1 honors in senior. Basically no EC’s beside cross country and indoor track. 87 gpa (though in a very elite school, Bronx Science.)

Hey, don’t put yourself down so much. If you are truly interested in CMU, then do what it takes to go for it. Do your best on your SATs, do well in school your first semester of your senior year, write great essays, get your best recommendations and play up your strengths. Believe in yourself. Yeah, probably no chance at ECE or SCS, but if you apply to everything else and really make the effort, well maybe it’s a reach but so what. I know it may be hard not to be intimidated when you read some of the amazing stats the kids post here. But somebody has to be in the bottom percentiles, right?

The only thing is, if you are not terribly interested in school, CMU may not be the right place for you. The kids here, in particular, seem to be working their butts off. And why go through all that effort if this wouldn’t be what you wanted even if you got it. There’s alot of great schools out there with excellent programs and reputations where you can lay back and relax, and do just fine.
