Will a terrible GPA hurt?

im looking to do business and i have a 3.37 gpa and it looks like its going to stay that way by the end of junior year. but on a slightly brighter side. i got a:

SAT 1: 2200 (770 math 700 reading). still not amazing i know
SAT2:
Math2: 800
History: 800
Chem: 770

and say i hypothetically impress on my extra curriculars, essays, and what not, will the GPA really eliminate me from competitions from CM's business school?

I don’t think so. You know they’ll cut out freshman year if it’s low and redo your gpa using just 10th, 11th and 12th?

A terrible GPA is never particularly good. That’s what the word “terrible” means. However, I think you’re exaggerating about how bad your gpa is, and about your prospects of turning it around during senior year (you’ll actually have time if you don’t do Early Decision).

The median high school gpa for CMu according to the Princeton Review is 3.6. Your GPA is slightly lower than that, but it’s not chance-destroyingly low. The fact that you have good SAT scores will help balance that out quite a bit. No one can guarantee that you will get in, but it’s still worth a shot.

thanks guys! puts some hope and positivity back into me lol.

I got in with a 3.29 (4.6 weighted) lol so it is possible. I wrote a very good essay and did well on my SAT (2060). I only applied to H&SS as I want to major in economics so it might have been a different case if I would have applied to SCS/Tepper/CIT. Good luck!
