Do you guys think the admission rate is a bit higher if you're say, hispanic or native american, or does it not even matter anymore? Just curious as to how much emphasis they put on this.

obviously, yale doesn't technically release that kind of information, but let's just say that there are employees at the admissions office whose entire job is to work on recruiting URMs. :) it has a significant effect on your chances of acceptance.

from what I've seen, I think every college gives you some sort of advantage if you're a URM...but that doesn't mean that it will make up for a really bad test score or GPA...you still have to be amazing :]

Well, I differ with that. I know a girl, African-American, who was admitted to Yale SCEA with 3.6 GPA weighted. She has some dance experiences but nothing on national level.

She probably had something else going for her though

i don't really believe in it. i'm a hispanic (from a very underrepresented country i'd imagine) who came here a few years ago and am valedictorian, my ACT is 33+, 2300+ combined score of three SAT II's, a lot of leadership roles and clubs, a lot of service, great recommendations, and from what people told me great essays. i got deferred, however.

maybe it's just the fact that i got deferred which made me a skeptic :p

also, my school is largely hispanic and only one guy has ever gone to yale despite a lot of us being very qualified - he was recruited for football though and wasn't even hispanic.

yeah that's pretty much how I am too, but I was born here. I'm from New England though and my school is predominantly white and not that amazing. I was also deferred, but oh well. Just trying to see my chances in regular decision :]

Thanks for the input guys

alej414, only explanation I can come up with is that particular q***** was filled. I know univ. deny such thing. you may get in thru RD.

Every time I get an e-mail from a school, it's from their URM recruiting office. xD It's kinda funny and yet sad at the same time...
