Hi guys!
I'm transferring to UCSB this Fall 2012, and I'm the type of person that likes to lay out their expenses and figure out how much money is needed for food, rent, tuition etc.

Does anyone mind sharing how much Financial Aid they received as a transfer? My parents make $62,000 a year. Thanks in advance!

if you count your saliva as your meal, your food cost is 0!

there I just removed your food expenses lol

What if I’m a cannibal? So my food would still be 0 since I won’t shop for food… MORE LIKE HUNT FOR IT

wink wink WINK

Well I don’t know what to tell you but… it could be more economical than what I suggested?? lol

I didn’t take you for a man eater :D

I like that word “Winkity” haha

Bumpity bump. And stop flirting in public Jk

Sent from my SGH-T959V using CC

Based off the UCSB estimated cost of attendance tool on their site I laid out this modified list for myself. This is per year so if you want per quarter you can just divide by 3. Also, in this scenario I’m not working and in reality I probably will be, a least a little.

Tuition----------------------------------------------12192
Student Service Fees------------------------------1483
Books and Supplies--------------------------------1428
Health Care Allowance (waved to 0)--------------0
Rent-------------------------------------------------5130
Food-------------------------------------------------2509
Cell Phone (parents paying)-----------------------0
Transportation--------------------------------------300
Personal Expenses---------------------------------1527

Total------------------------------------------------24569

Paying for it:
I have 1000 to add in:-----------------------------1000
Financial Aid Estimate-----------------------------18,600
SUB Loan-------------------------------------------5500

Remaining Money after paying--------------------507

EDIT: My parents make between 58-60k a year.

@Cekelly: HAHA Okay I’lll stop

@swagandtag: Thanks! Very helpful. I love how you laid it out…it made everything easier to understand.

also, why did you waive your health care allowance to 0? You don’t want full health coverage? My friend told me everyone needs it…and at home I don’t have health care so…i’m guessing you do thats why you waived it?

I wouldn’t say most people need health coverage in their teens tk early twenties, unless you have some health issues already, enjoy dangerous sports (including the dirty things I cant say on here because of the admins).

Cekelly: Yeah I agree but you never know what will happen…health care is expensive but I feel like it’s mandatory because things can happen…

@cekelly: whoa I thought I was just contributing to the discussion here lol

I think its very useful to have healthcare, just in case things goes wrong, had a friend that contracted a disease in his on-campus apartment couple years back, now I know why UCI is making us submit a immunization record before we enroll :/

Yeah, but if you have relatives or citizenship in a country with free health care uhmhumm like me (Ireland) you would really only need health care with thorough precedures and those are unlikely to occurr in your early twenties. Thats what I meant.

To wave the health care thing your parents need to have as good as or better health coverage then the school, which mine do.

so after they updated my cal grant award, i got 1k less than before i had blue and gold. I hate cal grant seriously.

my fi aid package was revised due to calgrant award.

Where did you check your award letter? Has UCSB updated their finical aid site?

Swagandtag: Just checked my UCSB financial aid tab: NOTHING but I heard they will post our fafsa by the end of july

Yep, I herd the same. I want to know how much money I’m gonna get and the sooner the better. lol

LOL me too! I’m getting antsy. GAH we’ll probably find out in 10 days haha
