I understand it varies depending on your major, credit hours, work ethic, ect. But about on average how many hours of free time do you have per week day and week end?
During my most busy semesters (17-18 hours), excluding time used for sleeping, working, eating, EC’s, and doing chores, it felt like I only had 6 hours of actual free time total per week, but could have been more or less, depending on how many tests and assignments I had that week. During my easiest semesters (12-13 hours, with fairly easy classes), I probably had about 14+ hours of free time per week, with some weekends being absolutely free.
I have a lot of free time… I’ll probably feel really guilty if I actually try to calculate it but it’s enough that I very rarely feel overwhelmed by school. That’ll probably change next semester with my on campus job, though.
Pre-engineering major / Spanish minor at Penn State
First semester: decent amount of free time; sometimes had weekends off. Joined 3 (minimal) ECs and took standard introductory classes: Econ, Calc 1 (honors), Chem 1, Spanish, required English class part 1 (honors).
Second semester: much less free time, but always had time to complete my work; never had weekends off. I essentially switched out Econ for Physics 1, which was a lot more time-consuming, and my Calc 2 (honors) teacher thought 50 - 60 problems a week was totally doable for a bunch of second-semester freshmen. :((
Still, I had time to surf the Internet and go walk dogs at the local animal shelter and read books for Book Club. My DS-playing steadily declined as the semester went on, however.
