I’m a senior in high school, I don’t have a job, but my dad gives me $1000 every 3-4 months as an allowance. How much money is a reasonable amount to spend on Christmas presents?
It depends on who the gifts are for. If they’re for high school friends, a token amount is fine, but if you’re creative, you can make $5 look like $15.
A similar token gift to teachers and coaches is nice too, but you can get away with a personal, heartfelt and well-written thank you note and holiday card. Most likely that kind of keepsake would mean more to them than a gift anyway.
Be a little more generous to your parents who are giving you such a fantastic allowance. You don’t have to spend a lot on siblings, but you should get them something you KNOW they will like (or at least find useful).
I’m an only child (part of why I get the generous allowance), but I’ll definitely spend more on gifts for my parents then gifts for friends. I think I’ll get my teachers a handwritten card.
