How much is the Tuition Award?

Does it vary based on need? Can anybody post how much they received on this award? We are not particularly needy (nor are we wealthy), so I have no idea how much it would be.

The financial aid page on myfordham hints that my son has received both the Loyola Scholarship and the Tuition Award, but doesn't say how much. The folks in the FA office say they can't tell me on the phone, and that I have to wait for the letter. The letter has not come.

These are merit scholarships and are not based on need. The Loyola Scholarship can be "up to $8.000 and the Tuition Award can be any amount. You do need to fill out the FAFSA. And unfortunately you do have to wait for the letter to know the amount of the scholarship(s). Best of luck.
If they’re not need based, I wonder why they make you fill out the FAFSA.

Dooddie, a lot of schools that give out merit aid require the student to complete the FAFSA. I dont know why. I do know some relatively parents who did not realize everyone qualifies for unsubsidized stafford loans.

Doodie and Kayf,
My understanding of why parents have to fill out the FAFSA is to ensure that they are not eligible for need-based aid (which is much easier to come by). The schools would rather their students receive need-based aid and save their merit money for other high-stats students if at all possible. Due to the COA at many schools, parents and kids who thought they were not eligible for need based aid actually can get some, thus freeing up merit money for the “pitiful” students who are only eligible for merit money.
