how much math needed to transfer

If your major doesn't require much math, do the UCs still want to see more math in your coursework.

I'm a Cognitive Science major and only 1 math class is required, in which I've completed, but I was just wondering if they want to see more math in my academics, or do they just base it on my prerequisites?

No, you don't need more math if your major doesn't require it. The smarter thing to do is take more classes that'll help prepare you for your major. For example, i'm a Legal Studies major..my major only requires STATS. I only took Stats, i filled up my elective units with classes like International Relations, Comparative Politics, etc which are not part of my pre-reqs but i believe they'll help me in one way or another with my major.

look at Welcome to ASSIST ....just fulfill whatever is required according to those course sequences

My recommendation will be to protect your GPA as much as possible, even if more math classes or other similar classes to your major seem like the proper course of action. Your goal is to get accepted, so choose your classes wisely. For example, I'm not that much of a math/science type so I chose 'Conceptual Physics' over 'Physics for Scientists and Engineers.'

But to answer your question, no, taking additional math classes won't win them over--completing pre-reqs with a high GPA will.
