I'm looking to attend High Point University for the fall of 2010. I've been on their website looking for scholarship information but all I see is information for freshman students. I'll be a transfer student. I've got a 3.65GPA. Can anyone give me an idea of how much I might get?

P.S. I got accepted to Winthrop and I qualify for a $5,000 scholarship. I'm just trying to compare costs of attendance. Thanks

Many schools that give merit aid for fr admissions do not for transfers. So if the HPU website doesn’t show merit scholarships for transfers, they likely don’t offer any. You can call them to make sure.

A college’s ranking is influenced by the quality of its incoming freshmen class, therefore there is an incentive to offer merit scholarships to those students. A school doesn’t really have an incentive to offer merit (or much merit) to transfer students. That’s why fewer schools offer merit for transfer students, and when they do offer merit, the amounts are usually for much lower than for incoming freshmen.

If you were depending on merit money to pay for that school, you may need to look at other options.

I appreciate the replys. I was told by a High Point admissions counselor that I would be able to get some sort of academic scholarship. I was just trying to get an idea of how much that could be. However if there isn’t any merit based aid even two years would cost me a lot of money.

The best person to answer this question would be that same admissions counselor who told you that you could get an academic scholarship, or a financial aid counselor at High Point. It would be nearly impossible for someone on CC to tell you about how much you might get awarded, because that’s so dependent on High Point’s own system of accepting transfers and giving them awards. Even the website says that for complete information about merit-based scholarships you should contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

If the website doesn’t give a merit amount for transfers, then your guess if as good as anyones. But, keep in mind, schools that give $$ to transfer students, usually don’t give more than a few thousand dollars (often less). So, if you’ll be needing a good amount, you should have a back up plan. :)
