How much of a commuter school is UCLA in the summer?

I go to another UC and i'm thinking of taking some summer courses at UCLA. I'd be living in the on-campus housing, but I don't want to take summer school there if the campus is going to be deserted after classes...
is it still a somewhat lively campus in the summer? are there sources of transportation available to students who want to explore places in LA?

Campus is generally definitely not as lively as it would be during the normal school year but, I wouldn’t say that it was completely dead. There’s still quite a few people here. It’s just a different kind of lively. The transportation here pretty much runs all year long… Metro, Big Blue Bus, and Culver City buses will pretty much get you to whereever you want to go (even disneyland if you want to sit on the bus for 3 hours each way! Though from personal experience I’d make friends with someone that has a car if you wanna go to disneyland…)

It is peaceful, and people do want to get to know you if you are open enough. There will be lots of foreign students, and they go out a lot. Halls are more quiet than during the year … like ckings said, if you want to go do Disneyland, meet some people who have a car.

There will be planned events around LA (nearly weekly or even more) if you live in the halls, but it seems like mostly visitors and foreign xc students attend. If you want go out and explore, meet some new people!

How do I apply for this program?
what’s the cost?
I want to go!

haikumanruchan,

Here’s a link: [UCLA Summer Sessions and Special Programs](http://www.summer.ucla.edu/)

I didn’t really look to see what all is there but, I’m sure you can find whatever you need regarding summer sessions there.

It’s so expensive…oh man…

…bump

so much better in the summer. the campus is prettier, cleaner, less crowded. traffic is far less in westwood. the professors are nicer and the classes are much easier. the food (if you live in the dining halls) is much more diverse and fresh. ahh, summer at ucla.

^ The price is killer, I could use scholarship money to get a few classes (I’m interested in a theater class, a public health class and a Music class)

Can u go take it even if you plan to attend in the fall?

Yes, you may attend summer school your first summer after high school. Few people do … I only know of one person who took 3 courses in this situation, because of a double major.

If you are not in a rush, don’t take anything and enjoy your summer.
