I'm wondering what the UCLA campus is like during the summer. I'm currently a UCLA student but thinking of staying up in LA and taking summer school. But non-UCLA students can take summer school at UCLA too, right? I'm wondering if the campus will be all deserted and I will be bored or if it's still possible to have fun while at summer school? Thanks.

Lots of Europeans who don’t seem to understand that it is a bad idea to smoke a cigarette inside of a residence hall filled with 3000 other people.

There are plenty of people on campus. Idk about the residence halls.

All summer school kids will live in Sproul Hall. Last year was fun and definitely had a different vibe than the regular school year. You will meet a lot more FOBs and Europeans that want a “taste” of the LA life. IMHO 70% of the summer school students could/were speaking in a language other than english. Its quite diverse!

You will continue to use your bruin card but they only take swipes at BCafe(which closed everyday at 2PM…no AM) and Covell Dining Hall.

Since you will meet a bunch of kids that don’t go to UCLA, a lot of people end up going to Hollywod, Venice, or Santa Monica on the weekends.

It was a fun experience overall and you will meet plenty of new people in 6 weeks.

Spoiled rich foreigners and conference guests (of varying ages) stay in most res halls during the summer, with usually 2 set aside for summer session students. The campus itself is pretty full still, not as much as the year, but it’s far from empty. It’s actually during the summer, if we weren’t overcrowded I feel like that’s how UCLA should be.

when do we sign up for summer school housing and classes (im assuming the latter is sometime in the spring…)? And do we choose our roommates, or are they randomly assigned?

thanks!

ps- just curious- are the foreigners described above actual UCLA students, or are they essentially exchange students from foreign universities…?
