How Much of the Activities and Awards Should You Fill Out?

The UC Application “Activities and Awards” section is subdivided into 6 sections, each with space for 5 items, making for 30 items total. I can prioritize and fill out the Common Application’s 10 easily but the UC’s 30, especially with it’s distinct categories, is giving me trouble.

Are you supposed to fill out most of it? Is it bad if you have nothing for sections such as “Education Prep Programs”? How much do competitive UCs (Berkeley, LA) consider this compared to GPA, SAT, and Personal Statements?

National awards and Leadership positions in your EC’s are probably the most important. You do not need to fill out every section and if you have 30 items to put into these sections, if I were an Adcom I would be worried you have no focus and you were just padding your resume.
