How Much Post-Acceptance Love from Chicago

you have to go to the bulletin boards once on the thickenvelope website, on the left panel. I think this is a reason why many people admitted to UC don't use CC forums anymore....there are always posts on thickenvelope every day and hour. I got to know people pretty well on there and met them during overnight too :D There's also a huge facebook thing going on there too with people who met on thickenvelope.

I definitely feel the lack of post-acceptance love from U of C...

For the admitted students days (I don't know if anyone else went) they actually made me fork over $30 to attend. I thought that that was extremely ridiculous, as if they were trying to lower their yield or something.

It's a complete contrast to how I was treated by Swarthmore, Williams, etc. after I got in. They basically showered me with attention and took care of me, and Williams even provided airfare and 3 days of lodging and food during Previews. I wonder if this is an indication of how I will be treated after I enroll.

Interesting golgi. How did you rate and compare the accepted students' weekend otherwise?

omg...ONCE MORE, GO ON THE THICKENVELOPE FORUMS.

And if you're basing your decision to go to college based on how much mail and extra brochures they send to you then you are gravely mistaken.

well, i actually do remember getting a course catalog and the "student life" booklet which were nice.

i never got a course catalog...luck you :(

when do i get mine?

You can find all of the course catalogs, both present and past, by googling "uchicago course catalog archives." The direct link is very difficult to find otherwise.

Got an e-mail a couple of days ago from finaid asking for a 2007 tax return. I guess it's better to be getting that kind of attention than no attention at all :)

Yeam I know about the course catalog online, i look at it all the time, but a hard copy would be better

I must agree, I'm not really bothered at all by the lack of rah-rah stuff. They send me plenty of paper, and that's what I like. My friend's free Yale shirt is rather scratchy and not very nice fabric at all. The Chronicle, however, is informative and recyclable.

In contrast to another school I was admitted to, the University of Texas, Chicago is very genuine. In terms of "love," Chicago is kind of the big Golden Retriever who runs to the door whenever I walk in, and UT is like a little Chihuahua who always assumes that I want to pet it. UT started sending me congratulatory letters from both the school and the college as soon as I was admitted that were written as if I had already accepted the offer there. I have also had requests to fax them all of my immunization information and previous medical history, as well as notifications reminding me to make my first payment on tuition and housing - which I haven't applied for and don't plan to - and it all comes across as a little funny, seeing as I don't intend to attend there and yet they are treating me as if I'm already enrolled. UT hasn't sent me any free stuff - probably because they already make the largest amount of money on college "gear" of any university in the States, I'm guessing.

Maybe I'm taking it too seriously, but I just thought it was a little weird.

S has a course catalog -- I think he got it in the mail last year. He says it's handy to read in bed at night as he plans out the next four years...

I had my course catalog by my beside too... and it was only afterwards that I decided to read Ted O'Neill's letter, which said "this is the nightstand copy."

The rumor is that posters and decals are arriving in the mail. Yay! Rumor.

Yepperoni!

Are the posters random? Mine is of Botany Pond. It's very nice and green and...sorta boring.

Thanks to Louie for pointing out the decal. I didn't realize it was stuck inside the envelope. My car's very happy now.

whattt? i didnt get one! are you guys on the east coast?

Got ours today. Two decals, one poster. Yeah, love!
S really liked the poster. Says the picture mst have been taken in June or July, though. ;)

Hmm... Any hearsay on whether international students receive posters?

It would be awesome if they handed out free T-shirts :O)

t-shirts are def. the best

i got the poster and car decal. pretty sweet.
