How much did you study before?

Honestly it’s hard to define how one might “study” for the ACT. I think one of the best ways to be prepared for the ACT is by taking classes that have corresponding material to the 4 sections. I took AP Language/Composition, AP Biology and Pre-Calc in my junior year and I think those all prepared me pretty well for my test in June. So really, your odds of doing well on the ACT slightly depend on the material you’ve studied in school. That being said, I think you can still do some studying at home to improve your chances of doing well.
People will give you a lot of study tips and time-management tricks but most of it is BS. Here’s what you really need to know to do well:
For English, make sure you review grammar rules because that’s literally all it is. I got a 36 on my English section and it’s because I knew the rules and how they applied to literary works. During the test, make sure you pay close attention to pronoun usage and verb tenses because if you move too fast that’s something you’ll make mistakes on.
Your success on the Math section really depends on what classes you’ve taken. Before I had taken Pre-Calc, for my first ACT, I got a 26 on the Math section. After Pre-Calc, my most recent ACT, I got a 34 on the Math Section. The night before my test I went over logarithms and computation/permutation formulas the most but I don’t think I ended up using any of it… haha yeah it’s really hit or miss with this one. Do some practice problems and make sure you know all the possible content.
For Reading, you just have to be attentive. You can’t really study for this section. Just move fast but try and pay close attention because they will nail you with a ton of detail questions.
A lot of people will tell you that you can do great on the Science section without having any science knowledge because it is primarily reading graphs and charts. This may be true, but it really helps if you actually know the information being represented. If you come across a question about radioactive decay, molecular transport, chemical forumlas, etc., it will take you way longer to answer if you’re looking at the information for the first time. My pre-AP Bio Science section score: 29. Post-AP Bio Science section score: 33.
I took a Prep class before my first ACT and before Pre-Calc and AP Bio. I don’t think the Prep class helped at all but the practice book I got was really nice. I’d say do a practice test every week about a month before your test and that will really help.
I don’t know if you’ve taken the ACT yet, but if you have, don’t think your score is set in stone by any means. My first ACT was a 30, second a 31, and my last was a 34.
Good luck. :)>- @Yomo710
