How much will 2 C's reduce your chances?

I got straight A's my freshman and sophomore year. I had a lot of personal things going on during junior year and had to go to 2 different schools ( moved to another state). I took the most challenging classes at both school because I knew I would get bored in a regular class.
I'm really worried because I know I'll get 2 c's this year.. and I cant bring them up, I asked my teachers and they said that theres nothing I can do about it. The reason why I have C's is because my grade in those classes is based on 2 assignments...

Can I still get into a good college? should I explain my situation in my essay?
UC berkeley was my top school but I doubt I can get in with 2 c's.. I'm also interested in UC santa barbara and other schools in California

I havent taken the ACT but have been studying and I'm aiming for 30+
SAT II Spanish 800 Biology M 740

Thanks.

Well getting Cs never helps :frowning: How much? Well I expect you already know that. It depends on the courses. If the Cs are in core courses (english, math, science [to mean biology, chemistry, physics], language, history) then the impact is much higher than if they are in an elective.

So the question for you is whether or not you can mitigate those C’s that are in core courses. Perhaps you can take a more advanced version of the course this summer at a community college, or in your senior year first semester and do very well, or take the SAT II for that subject and ace it.

Do you need to provide reasons for the Cs on your application? I rarely thinks that this a good approach. Always focus on the positive in your application. Turn a setback into a forward step by learning from it, and showing that you’ve learned through future results.

Does Berkeley have a good relationship with your school? Kids at my school with C’s in my school’s hardest classes (IB Chem and Civics) have fared fine at our flagship, but C’s in other classes don’t bode well.

I’ll get c’s in IB Chem and AP English Lang. My school sends a lot of kids to Ivy league schools and other schools that are hard to get into, so I guess it has a good relationship with Berkeley.
Do you know of any good colleges that I might get into with those C’s?

thanks.
