I have 2 A-s currently for first term (AP lit and BC calc), and I may have another A- in one class of AP chem (our school is weird, AP chem is split up into two clases w/ two separate grades, I have an A in the other AP chem). How much will these A-s affect my chances of admission? I know these grades really aren’t bad, but I have no idea how a school like Yale would view these grades.
Unless your grades are already finalized and a midyear report has already been sent by your GC, your first semester grades will not be part of the SCEA evaluation. If you are deferred (or you meant RD, not REA), I doubt if some A-'s will be determinative. A’s (or A+'s) of course are better and there may be context to A-'s in your GC report – will the A-'s drop you several places in class ranking because everyone else is getting A’s/A+'s?
Oh really? Our GCs said first term grades will count. And I don’t think so, our school moved to a new schedule this year, so everyone’s grades have been a little lower than usual (adjusting to the new schedule, etc). Our school doesn’t do class rank though, they just give a GPA graph.
They “count” in that you just can’t blow off the year. @BKSquared is correct, but even if one is granted SCEA admission, that admission offer is subject to being rescinded for bad grades (which means a D, not an A-.)
For that matter, if you are accepted EA or RD, your final grades will also count as @skieurope posts since your admissions offer is subject to final grades (and not doing something really stupid). You can skate a bit final semester senior year, just don’t fall into a hole in the ice.
@skieurope @BKSquared okay, thank you so much!!!
