Hey guys, I'm applying to several small LACs for Fall 2011 (think Vassar, Wesleyan, etc). I'm currently a freshman and go to UF. In high school I had close to a 3.8 GPA, tons of ECs, 2180 on SAT, National Merit Scholar, AP Scholar, etc. However in college I had a 3.5 GPA first semester freshman year (3 As and a B- in calc that really brought it down) Will this hurt me? I feel like most transfer students are the opposite of me and were less focused in high school and then get 4.0s in college. I study a ton and I am involved this year, I'm just scared it won't be good enough. This semester I am doing better, taking 17 credits and on track for mostly As but still. I'm worried. What do you guys think?

??? Bump …

It never looks good to be on the decline academically, but one semester will probably not kill you. Maybe write about having a tough transition from high school to college in your essays?
