Hi,
Im going to be a senior at my high school right now and am considering Med School. But first i need an undergrad.

Basicly, i have no idea what to do so lets take this one step at a time...

---High School---
Took honors classes, extra classes, summer school, etc
GPA on a 4.0 scale: 3.0 ... yeh.
Rank:400 of 950
ACT: 28 (going to take it again hopefully will get a 30)
SAT: didn't take, but should i? Act substitutes for SAT doesn't it?
Activities: What should i be participating in... internships? My dad is a nuclear tech manager at his hospital and can get me internships easily.

---Undergrad---
What do i major in? Everyone is saying that pre-med is a waste of time. I want something that'll help me in med school, but something that i can work and make money with while i am in med school.

---Med School---
Dream... or reality?

And seeing my GPA...that pretty much rules out a straight direct 6-7 year program right?

LOL @ working while in med school

To answer your other questions honestly with no BS:

You have no chance at 6/7 year programs.

You can apply to medical school from any accredited university. I'm sure you can get in somewhere. Even if you end up going to community college, you can transfer.

You can't predict med school acceptances based off high school info. If you shape up, anything is possible.

I'd suggest trying to go to your state school (what is it?), work hard, and apply to med school.

If you're looking for a major that can be backup plan yet help in med school, then chemical engineering might be good. They make 60000 a year straight out of undergrad and have the same chemistry requirements as pre-meds. Be warned, chem engineering has lots of physics and calculus and little chemistry.

So ur saying i have a chance at getting into saay UIC urbana champaign to do anything science/med related?

1.) There are 2500 universities in America, and that's not even including community colleges. You will have plenty of options at that stage.

2.) Your current HS track record will not cut it -- but fortunately it doesn't count yet. But you will certainly have to improve in college.

3.) You will not be able to work during medical school.

so wuts my trak as of now?

get a better ACT which im taking in september...
then apply in state schools for bio/pre-med sumthing of that nature?
Keep GPA high in undergrad school
Score high on MCAT
get into a med school...?

We're saying:

Start by going to college. Do as well as you can there. Reevaluate in a couple of years, when you have a track record.

I'd say the GPA is a little low for UIUC
