With the current emergence of social media and all (facebook and twitter being the most popular), do you guys ever check your email?

I know some people pretty much log on to their facebook accounts everyday and spend hours there. It makes me wonder, is email becoming obsolete?

Adults still use email for sure, but what about the younger generation?

I'd love to hear opinions from both sides of the camp. For those who still check your email and those who rarely do, let me know why you do so.

I check mine all the time- college stuff, friends that I don’t see often in person that I talk to, alerts from CC. I just kinda leave an email window open on my laptop pretty much whenever I’m using it.

I have a BlackBerry and have my e-mail forwarded to my phone. I also use the Mail app on my Mac and get my mail with a simple click. I speak to a lot of my professors through e-mail.

I check my mail at least once a day because my university frequently sends important messages, and so do my professors and academic advisers. It’s so easy for you to not keep up if you don’t check your mail and keep it properly sorted when you’re in college.

I check my e-mail pretty frequently (daily or so), but I go through phases, I guess. In part it depends on whether or not I expect anything. I am a high school student.

But I’m not up-to-date on any social media, so that might be why…

Yep, I’m with everyone who has it go straight to their phone, and if I’m on my laptop I get desktop alerts. I probably get about 10 emails per day (though usually 7-8 of them are just the spam from colleges) but never have more than one or two unread.

I’m in high school (junior) and I still use my email. In fact I use it everyday! I have a little add on that constantly lets me check it 24/7 and I also have it one my phone. I use it for business stuff and for school.

I only use facebook to talk to my friends.

So for me facebook is for entertainment email is for business. But yes to answer the question I am always checking both 24/7.

I’m 17. I go on Facebook maybe every other day, if that often. I’m always logged onto my email on my iPod, so I check it pretty often. I get emails from teachers and friends, notifications from CC and Facebook, coupons, etc. Email tends to be my main source of communication.

I have my email linked to my ipod, so I end up checking it quite a bit. Most of the emails I do get are a) College mail, b) random website emails or c) Twitter notifications

I only send emails to send people attachments

All the time (it’s linked to my iPhone). I get a lot of updates from my research lab(s), school, and I use it to keep up to date with some of my friends who don’t use Facebook.
