I should be able to register for classes by tomorrow (when my deposit check clears). I will be transferring as a junior and a lot of the classes I need are already closed. If I get on the wait list, will I be able to get any of those classes?

This is super disappointing.

How does wait listing (for classes) work?

It depends on the class. If it’s a popular class/professor that meets a distribution requirement, the wait list may not move much. If it’s a class in your major, your adviser may be able to help you get into the class. Professors are usually overwhelmed with large numbers of students trying to add their classes at the beginning of the term, so to be fair, they often refuse adds uniformly. Since you note that you “need” the classes that are closed, you should probably start by talking to your adviser.
