How personal is too personal?

I’m working to answer the following prompt for Rice:

The Committee on Admission is interested in getting to know each candidate as well as possible through the application process. The following essay question is designed to demonstrate your writing skills and facilitate our full appreciation of your unique perspective.

The quality of Rice’s academic life and the Residential College System are heavily influenced by the unique life experiences and cultural traditions each student brings. What personal perspective do you feel that you will contribute to life at Rice?

I have a perspective which I feel is unique. It deals with my carelessness and lack of responsibility and involves sexual intercourse. I don’t want to revolt an essay reader. Should I write about this experience, or look for a tamer topic?

Yea…something tamer. I’m not sure that would put you in a good light, if your talking about your being promiscuous (or anything related to this a bit). Not trying to offend you…

I apologize if I misunderstood anything you said.^^^

I would write a not serious and humorous response instead.

That sounds very sordid. I can’t imagine they would want to hear about your sex life. I cannot see the connection with how you would contribute to ‘cultural traditions’ etc to elevate and drive the quality of residential life and your sex life?

Perhaps you are saying you have experiences that could inform other people and contribute to discussion of the role and responsibility that goes with expressing sexuality in a young person’s life? I think that could be valuable but it would be a very fine line and one that not many a high school student would be able to pull off.
