If you are not Catholic and preppy, will you feel out of place at Georgetown? I know they are beefing up their theatre department and with an interest in theatre and poly sci, it seemed like a good fit for my daughter, but she is worried that she will feel out of place as she is not Catholic and is more artsy than preppy. She also wants some ethnic diversity on campus. Any thoughts from those at Georetown?

1) No "Catholic" dominance, so to speak. Certainly, a number of students who graduated from Catholic/Jesuit schools, but by no means is this the predominant vibe.
2) No "prep" feeling, either. Most of everyone I know is pretty laid back.
3) The Royden B. Davis, S.J. Center for the Performing Arts JUST opened a week or two ago, would be greatly beneficial in terms of satiating your daughter's theatrical desires.
4) Ethnic diversity is present all around campus. Intercultural events happen all the time.

Arts wise, Georgetown is fairly weak...I was up at Columbia and really impressed with their arts program when I visited my friend. I came to a high school that was extremely into independent off beat productions and Georgetown is a bit more standard, though there are some...

I would differ from Tlaktan in that people here are vastly more preppy and much less laid back than what I'm used to. However, I came from a decently small California surf town...so it is all relative to what you're used to. Another kid who came from my school has similar feelings about the type of people/environment... I've also noticed that I've kind of numbed to it since I've been here...popped collars aren't so shocking to me anymore..

I will address the "preppy" factor but have a question for you. I hear the term preppy but in practice I often substitute the term urban sophisticate. I do think that there are elements of both that cross over.......what is your daughter meaning by preppy?
