How routine oriented are you in the upkeep of your household?

@abasket, yes! You can easily delete it.

Wow, never tried scan and go with Costco, tho I have the app. Will give it a try next visit. Thx.

Me too. Sometimes the lines have been ridiculously long at Sam’s and I just sail by.
Easy to take things off and keep editing cart. Makes it nice because you can stack items how you want with no worry about digging items out from underneath to later scan them.

BJ’s has scan and go also. With it you can keep track of coupons also and it’ll be automatically redeemed when you buy the item. Haven’t figured out all the ins and outs yet. Can’t use it though for alcohol which is a pain–if you need some you still end up in line.

So lead us through the end of your shopping trip when using the app…

Do you “pay” near the registers via the app which is attached to your credit card?
Do you leave the cash register area where ever there is an opening to walk through?
Do you show the person at the exit door your app receipt? Or are you somehow getting a paper receipt?
If the receipt is through the app do they check it more thoroughly???

When done shopping you swipe to pay with credit card you have associated with your app. You’ll know the total and taxes etc. All on your phone–doesn’t matter where you are in the store.
A QR code appears. Skip all lines and go to exit. The person at the door as you exit has his scanner and will scan the QR code on your phone (same as if you had a receipt and they marked a check on it). That’s it!
The receipt will be on your phone (and associated with your acct) if you need to return anything.

Do they check more thoroughly? At Sam’s they spot check three items for both paper and QR codes so it’s the same. Don’t know about Costco.

Lol. Just make sure your phone battery doesn’t die in the middle.

Downloaded the Costco app (didn’t have it on my new phone) but don’t see where to scan and shop…

I go very early so there’s no line anywhere, lately they no longer have senior hours, so I don’t shop at Costco as often.

Maybe different Costcos allow for different features?

I was just having a conversation with some friends about whether the Costco app had a scan and go feature and we came to the conclusion it doesn’t. At least we saw no evidence that it did. It can hold your credit card info so you can scan a QR code instead of pulling out a card but that to me doesn’t add much value.

Ugh. I apologize–I was looking online and it looked like Costco had scan and go just like Sam’s Club but maybe they don’t. Go to your account on the app and see if there’s anything there.

No biggie. Now we know why the lines ARE (at times) long!!! Ours do have some self scans but I only will use those if I have a couple items - which isn’t often!

It’s interesting that Costco doesn’t have a similar “scan and go” feature. We don’t have Costco close enough to us to make it worth the membership since we have Sam’s right here, but everyone I know who has Costco raves about it. TBH, I’d rather belong to Costco since Sam’s is a Walmart company, but can’t justify the 35 min trip to Costco (and it’s not an area that I regularly pass by).

That said, with my Sam’s membership I also get free shipping which is awesome, especially with supply chain issues. I can order things online that are not available sometimes in my local store, as well as ship certain necessities to my kids when they are away at school and don’t have a car. My membership also includes “Early Bird” hours so I can go at 8am when it’s empty rather than 10am when they open to regular members. So that, along with the Scan and Go app have really been a nice perks. I looked at Costco memberships but didn’t see any that offered something similar, but could be wrong.

Costco delivers and it’s worth every penny.

Sams Club just delivered to us today. And we don’t pay for shipping. It’s free! (Not sure how or why but I assume membership costs pays for it.)

We use it all the time. Easy, efficient and quick. And I’m not lugging all the items in/out of my car or from car to garage, etc.

@socalmom007 do you have to pay for shipping? That’s what I could not figure out when I was looking at the membership benefits.

Paying for shipping is usually dependent on membership level.

@gouf78 I know that’s true for Sam’s Club, and it’s listed as a benefit of the Plus membership that I have. However, I looked at the different Costco memberships on their website last year (and doublechecked again today before posing that question) when I considered possibly switching. I didn’t see any that included free delivery which is one of the reasons I decided to just keep our Sam’s membership.

I don’t mean shipping for dry good, I mean same day grocery delivery. I think Costco operates it through instacart or something. My husband does the grocery shopping, so I’m not positive. We order, a shopper pulls our order and texts to ok any substitutions, then they deliver it to our porch. We can order anything in the store, meat, frozen and refrigerated foods, produce, etc…

Minimum is $75 for Instacart. For business account is $200 for free shipment. This is my recollection, not recently, may not be100%. I have executive level.
