How safe is Fordham University? (Campus, etc)

Which campus has the least partying
Least Drugs (weed, etc)
And is the safest?

I know a guy who went to Fordham and was a pot dealer there. He said they got emails about once a week at least about people being jumped and etc.
SOOO
I'm going to NYU but my boyfriend's parents are asking me to see which campus of Fordham is the safest for him
or if he should go to Pace (safer period. and better internships but poorer academically and in terms of ranking)
I know it's selfish but I think that Pace is better because it's safer and he said that Fordham felt like an oversized high school.
Any comment?
Any thoughts- Fordham vs. Pace? <vs. the="" new="" school="">
Campuses? etc
Thanks in Advance!</vs.>

Fordham is a much better school than Pace academically and has a better reputation, not to say Pace isn’t a solid University. When I visited Fordham I spoke to many students and they said on campus at Rose Hill they felt completely safe. Keep in mind Fordham’s Rose Hill Campus in the Bronx is completely gated with security checkpoints at all entrances. In terms of off campus students said most of the area is fine, many students hang out at little Italy that is there at nights. They just said to use common sense and to not walk alone at night. That rule really goes to anywhere in a large city like New York. Fordham’s Lincoln Center Campus is right in the middle of Manhattan extremely close to central park. It’s also a generally safe area if you use your common sense. Obviously you shouldn’t walk home alone late at night, especially if you’ve been drinking and are not completely alert. When I visited I absolutely fell in love with Fordham’s Rose Hill campus. It is amazingly beautiful.

I’d pick either of Fordham’s campuses over Pace’s hands down. Yes, they are city campuses with all the attendant risks, but as a small female who has been in the area quite often, and I am careful, it’s not what I’d consider any more dangerous than any number of NYC forays. Or any more than a number of other city schools. Not an issue that stands out, IMO unless you want to compare to a location, like Dartmouth’s , but even up there, a horrorific murder of professors occurred, which not the likes of which has happened here.

There are incidents at every university around the country, even in bucolic settings. It happens at Kenyon College. It happens at Duke. It happens at UVa. It happens at Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio State. It happens at UCLA and USC. It happens at Georgetown. Notre Dame. It even happens in Billionaires Row at Stanford.

Large urban cities are often fraught with issues…typical urban issues. Jesuit schools are primarily (like most of them) in inner urban settings.

NYU is no picnic btw. Greenwich Village has its own issues and there isnt a campus…its all basically tall buildings and city scape.

Fordham IS safe in the Bronx. The Bronx is not evil. It has rougher spots than some other Bronx areas, and you learn to be careful, be smart and NEVER go drinking and wandering alone late at night off campus. Stupid kids do stupid things. At every school.

The other thing is to embrace the Bronx for its richness and ethnic beauty. To give back to community (the Jesuit ethos).

Is Fordham for everyone? No. But what school is, I ask you? I once met an adminstrator at a prestigious LAC who spent the entire interview (admissions related) screeching about how bad Harvard was. Fact.

Fordham has over 5,000 undergrads on the Rose Hill campus, hundreds of professors, administrators and security officers. They all eat in Little Italy and do basic shopping in the area. Just be smart and be careful.

Rose Hill isn’t an oversized high school, that’s LC (actually, in my case, it’s smaller than my high school!). Still love it there though.

Hi, Starsshine. Here’s a recent thread on the topic, which may add some insight: <a href=“Is the Fordham campus and the immediate area safe? - Fordham University - College Confidential Forums”>Is the Fordham campus and the immediate area safe? - Fordham University - College Confidential Forums;

Daughter spent summer at Harvard and complained how unsafe Cambridge was at night. (filled with homeless as it is illegal in city of Boston) So, every school has its issues. Be smart, don’t walk alone. Always be in control of yourself and your ability to judge a situation. She walked from Harlem subway stop up to campus during day and claimed it was very noisy, but safe.

Seems like we have this thread every day! It’s safe. It’s not as safe as a suburb, but if you go out during the day you won’t get robbed. Go out at night by yourself? Yeah, maybe.
