How serious do colleges view cheating?

I made this new account because I've made some contributions to CC and do not want people to know who I really am. I once cheated in high school on a test. It was in precalc for using a calculator program I had made myself on the test. This led to my getting a B+ in precalc for one semester and my name on a cheating contract with the school. Senior year, I got an A in AP Calc, but the B+ is still glaring right out on the transcript. On the college apps, I had to explain my cheating. I'm wondering how much the colleges take into account the disciplinary action. Thanks.

I don’t mean to scare you off, but I’m pretty sure that colleges take cheating very seriously, much more than high schools do. I don’t exactly know how you can justify cheating on a test, but best of luck to you.

…You got a B+ for cheating? at my school you fail the class if you’re caught.

@mitchwashington First offense is just a zero on the assignment. Second+ times are class fails.
@idksilly, I kind of expect that. Thanks for that feedback.

How much of a hinderance would it be considering my delcared major as Computer Engineering? My SAT math and math ii were both 800s. I know that one day in precalc will make its mark however…
