How Should Class of 2017 Prepare for the New PSAT This Summer

DD is currently freshman and will be the first class taking the new PSAT during the fall of junior year. She would like to start preparing for the PSAT this summer since she has a heavy extra-curricular schedule during school year so won't be able to work on any test preparations. What would be the best way for her to prepare this summer? (By the way, she is taking Algebra II and Trig this year so she should be able to handle PSAT preparation.)

She is thinking about enrolling in a short summer class ($190). During the class, they would work on the test and the teacher help them with strategies, etc….. But the class will cover the old PSAT.

For this summer, is preparing for the old PSAT a good way to prepare for the new PSAT down the road? What are the differences between the two tests? Please also suggest any other ways for PSAT preparation this summer.

Our younger son is in the same boat. We’re planning on him trying the Khan Academy SAT prep this summer, even though it isn’t for the new test. Khan’s new SAT prep will be out in Spring 2015, so he’ll have that summer to study before the PSAT in the fall.

Is there much info out there about how results from Khan Academy prep compare with those from using a commercial test prep service, such as Kaplan?

I’m in the same boat. I’m going to take the old SAT next year. In order to get the scholarship from PSAT, I have to take the new PSAT in the fall 2015. Any advice on how should I prepare for this change?
