I am mailing my Recs instead of my teachers, and I am sending a cover letter explaining. I am just using the standard business letter format, but should I address the cover letter "To Whom It May Concern" or "Dear (Dean of admissions)"? They are probably not the one who sorts all the mail and would read the letter, so I am not sure what to put.

Could you further describe what you mean by "mailing"? Are your teachers' recommendations at least sealed in an envelope so confidentiality is kept?

Perhaps "To whom it concerns" or "Dear Admissions Committe" or "Officer"...

I don't think so...? Some apps have this whole "confidentiality waiver" thing. (Don't know what it is.)

But at my school my GC and most teachers refuse to allow us to read the recommendations. Another teacher allows the recommendation to be read, to make sure the info's correct but refuses to let the student see how they're rated (the whole "top of career" "top 10%" "excellent student" stuff)

They refers to the teachers. Honestly I didnt think much of it, and I sent off a cover letter, the first page of the online app for identity purposes, and the recs. Sure, I looked at them, and they were good, but confidentiality never crossed my mind, especially since they had me send them out and pretty much read them aloud to me. It's not a problem with the teachers, but will it be with the college?

Generally, colleges don't want their applicants to read their teacher's rec letter. Apparently it loses the objectivity. Personally, I don't see a problem with it since the letter is already written. However, my opinion doesn't matter. Colleges prefer rec letters sent straight from teachers.

okay, thanks. I was going to try calling the colleges, but then I decided against it...

Admissions Officer: Hello?

Me: Yeah... Not that I looked at my reccomendation letters, because I didn't... But if I did... Should I stop them from being sent and repackage them so it looks like I-
