How should I send extra letters of recommendation?

I am going to ask my mentor from camp to write an extra rec. I am applying to many Ivies through the Common App, but so how should I attach extra recs. Should I tell her to mail her recs to the individual schools? Should an extra LOR have a specific heading? (Many of the schools I'm applying to don't give clear instructions.) Is there a specific form she needs to fill out or does she only need to write a letter?

Also, since my mentor lives on the other of the country, I feel rude because I can't provide her with stamps/addressed envelopes. Is there any way she can email her rec?

Thanks!

bump please

Many schools have no specific procedure because it isn’t required/expected. As far as any “form,” I would just ask the recommender to put your commonapp ID number and your name on the top of the recommendation, perhaps also with your Date of Birth. Then s/he should send that to the college.

Unfortunately, I think it needs to be mailed (somebody correct me if that’s not the case… I know it is with the colleges I’m looking at). Perhaps mail your recommender a large envelope with a cover letter explaining which schools you are applying to and with each addressed envelope and stamp included inside your bigger envelope… just a thought. Good luck!

If you are applying on the commonapp.org, the common application online, I think you can upload the letter as a document under the Additional Information section in the writing section. OR you can have the mentor send it to the school’s admission’s office. Make sure it’s postmarked correctly, and also make sure YOUR full name and commonapp ID (in some cases you might also add your home address, high school, date of birth, etc. Anything to help the college match up the letter with your folder in the admissions office, but don’t go overboard.)

Hope I helped! I’m going through the same process as well!
