hey guys, so i got accepted into pitt a while back. I don't have the SAT or the ACT score needed to be eligible for the honors college but I am really interested in trying to live in Sutherland and even take UHC courses while at pitt as a freshman. I have weak test scores (1910 sat - 610 CR, 680 M, 620 W and 28 ACT - 30E, 29M, 31R, 28S, 31E/W, 11 essay)..but my GPA and my course load is very strong. Do you think I could call up pitt or email them and ask them for a time where I can come in and talk to the honors admission board and just tell them why I really want to be in the honors college? do you think pitt would even consider such type of request?

thank you in advance for helping me out

oh and also, I don’t really need any financial aid to a great degree so that is not an incentive in trying to get into the honors college…

Pitt’s honors college is different than most other honors colleges. It is an open membership college where all Pitt students can take advantage of their offerings as much or a little as they are motivated to do so. However, from what I understand, if you are not admitted to the honors college as a freshman, you will either have to wait until your second semester freshman year (or perhaps sophomore year) to try to take honors courses, and you may need special permissions to do so. But you absolutely can take honors classes, and graduate with an honors degree without having been admitted as a first year freshman. The whole system is set up to encourage and provide resources for motivated and intellectually curious students, so absolutely, taking the initiative to contact then and explain why you want to be apart of the honors college is right up their alley. (see here: [Eligibility](http://www.honorscollege.pitt.edu/about/eligibility.html))

I don’t think you’ll get into honors admit at this point. The published average admitted SAT is 1457. So try to take one or two courses when they’ll let you. To get an honors degree requries research and defense of your research so it’s not simply taking X honors courses and keeping a certain GPA. From what I’ve read, many students admitted into honors college don’t actually go through what they need to get the honors degree. But you can if you want.

thanks for the replies. I think im going to ahead and contact them. I mean the worst that can happen is that they say no… And this is an expected reply.

Should i call or email admissions?

I think you want to contact the honors college.
