How strong is my application?

Hello everyone,

My name is Matt and I am a senior at a high school just outside of Boston, MA. As I narrow down my list of schools, I am trying to judge my chances to get into the schools I am applying to. I have an unusual application, so I wanted to see what you guys thought my chances were of getting into these schools (Boston College, UVA, UNC, Tufts, NYU, UPenn, William and Mary, UMass, Northeastern, GWU, etc). I have very good extracurriculars, and I am a very strong writer, but my GPA is a little bit below average for these schools.

GPA:
4.35/5 (B+/A- average, more B+’s than A-‘s though, equivalent to about a 3.5/4)

My GPA improved significantly each year (freshman year: 4.1, sophomore: 4.3, junior: 4.6, senior: 4.9)

SAT:
1430 (I’m taking it again next month)

Extracurriculars:
Class president (graduating class of 400)
Started own piano tutoring business, had more than 10 students for all four years of high school
Varsity soccer
Varsity tennis
Varsity jazz band
President of Music honors society
Tutor in the school’s writing center
(I am also an accomplished pianist/singer, I plan to submit a music portfolio)
National honors society
National English honors society
Peer mentor leader

Writing:
I expect two phenomenal recs from the teachers I asked, I am very close with them. Also, the people that have read my essay seem to think it’s very strong.

Am I looking at the right level of schools? What are my chances of admission? How strong is my application? Any input would be greatly appreciated because I have no idea.

Thank you,
Matt

You have done well but I think your list is a bit aggressive. The only real safety I see is UMass. Also be certain that the schools on your list are affordable.

Your extracurriculars are definitely your strong point, but I would really work hard to improve the GPA and the SAT, as many of the top universities and half of your mentioned universities would probably not even look at your extracurricular section if your GPA and SAT are not as good as they can be.
If you can get 1460+ SAT that would like nice seeing that you are also doing many extracurriculars.
