Hi, I am from Massachusetts and a going to be a senior this fall. My freshman and sophmore years i goofed off and got myself a 2.68 gpa those first two years. Junior year however, I got myself together and got a 3.5 gpa that year and took the New SAT and got a 1400. My classes consisted mostly of Honors and AP courses and so far have taken 3 AP’s and will be take 2 more in 12th. My Extracurriculars include being VP of a TEDTalks Club at my high school and member of Trivia club and Key Club, and as for sports I have taken JV Track and Field. I have also clocked around 100 hours of volunteer work at the local library and hospital. Assuming good reccomendation letters and a great essay, as well as the GPA as it is right now, what are my chances at getting into Umass Amherst?
P.S. I am a URM
Other college choices I am considering are: UConn, UNH, UMass Boston, and UMass Lowell
Hi, you have a good chance for UNH, umass lowell, and umass boston, however uconn and umass amherst are still a bit of a reach. Not a huge reach seeing as you have a good set of extracurriculars and you have a good upward trend, and a good test score that is above their averages. Just your final gpa is a little bit on the lower side for those schools, so it could be on the fence! hope that helps.
Clarification on the OP. I moved to a totally different part of our town (which is relatively large) right before freshman year, and Due to this new location I went to a totally different HS than most, if not all my friends from years past, who decided to go with Vocational School. I felt that it did have an impact on my first two years of HS and I talk VERY briefly about it in the Common App essay, and I believe my GC brought it up in her LoR for me.
Not sure if that helps, but there you are
P.S. eop, are you also applying to UMass and Uconn?
