Chances at Umass Amherst with 3.1 weighted and 1400 New SAT?

Hi, I am from Massachusetts and a going to be a senior this fall. My freshman and sophmore years i goofed off and got myself a 2.68 gpa those first two years. Junior year however, I got myself together and got a 3.5 gpa that year and took the New SAT and got a 1400. My classes consisted mostly of Honors and AP courses and so far have taken 3 AP’s and will be take 2 more in 12th. My Extracurriculars include being VP of a TEDTalks Club at my high school and member of Trivia club and Key Club, and as for sports I have taken JV Track and Field. I have also clocked around 100 hours of volunteer work at the local library and hospital. Assuming good reccomendation letters and a great essay, as well as the GPA as it is right now, what are my chances at getting into Umass Amherst?

P.S. I am a URM

Other college choices I am considering are: UConn, UNH, UMass Boston, and UMass Lowell

Also took SAT II for Biology and got a 680 and one i Math and got a 700

Hi, you have a good chance for UNH, umass lowell, and umass boston, however uconn and umass amherst are still a bit of a reach. Not a huge reach seeing as you have a good set of extracurriculars and you have a good upward trend, and a good test score that is above their averages. Just your final gpa is a little bit on the lower side for those schools, so it could be on the fence! hope that helps.

Thanks fr the reply!

Sent my applications in last week

Clarification on the OP. I moved to a totally different part of our town (which is relatively large) right before freshman year, and Due to this new location I went to a totally different HS than most, if not all my friends from years past, who decided to go with Vocational School. I felt that it did have an impact on my first two years of HS and I talk VERY briefly about it in the Common App essay, and I believe my GC brought it up in her LoR for me.

Not sure if that helps, but there you are

P.S. eop, are you also applying to UMass and Uconn?

yes i applied to umass and got in, unh and got in, and still waiting for uconn. Stats are 3.45 gpa and 30 ACT

Your best shots are Lowell and Boston. Amherst will be a reach.

don’t know what these people are talking about…you’re in

Doesn’t the particular school within UMASS Amh matter? Business v. Eng. etc?

forgot to add that AlumDadMA, the major would be econ, which is college of social and behavioral sciences i believe
