How to Ace Literature

Great advice!

What scores will colleges/universities look highly upon, in regard to the Lit test? I know they’ll love an 800, but what about a 740, for instance?

^a 740 is good. Not amazing (750+ would be really great), but 740 is definitely solid.

Do I have to study for lit? Isn’t it just like CR, except with poems and it’s more analytical? If I get around 5 wrong on an AP lit test, what would that translate into for SAT lit? Thank you

Bumppp

Phew, I am so glad lolcats said Barron’s lit was way harder than the real thing. I’m getting below 700 on practice tests (but above 600), so I’m hoping for 700+!

I’m still in AP Lang and haven’t taken AP Lit yet. Will studying barrons AP Lang book help with the lit?

Quick question, if anyone knows:

Is the amount of vocab on the Kaplan diagnostic test fairly typical of the real thing? I haven’t learned much of anything in my English classes since middle school, so I’ll need to do a lot of studying if I end up taking this SAT. I’m feeling more than a bit discouraged after trying the practice test.

thanks, really helpful.

Daisie, what did you get on your first practice test?

The questions like “Which line contains a trochee?” did me in, but the test was also trickier overall than I expected.

(For reference, I got an 800 on SAT CR first try, and I missed only one multiple-choice question on a practice AP Lang exam the other day.)

Ya I took the Kaplan diagnostic and got even lower than that. Once you read through the book and start doing practice tests you should easily be scoring 700+ and you could probably reach an 800 with some practice.

How do you find clues in the passage for ‘tone’ questions? The really confuse me for two reasons, firstly because it is difficult to find words pointing towards one tone in the huge extract and secondly because the answer choices often contain two similiar tones ( eg: serious and earnest).

Great advice
:)

Gah!! Wish I had seen this thread before I took the exam…

I answered all the questions on the collegeboard website correctly even the ones rated hard quickly and pretty much, effortlessly. Does that mean I should take the test

Hi im shayan btw shahrez’s brother (he told me to write this so that people don’t think he’s a ■■■■■ or something…:S)

Although that’s not a strikingly objective and reliable yardstick, you can/should appear for the Lit test.

Yeah, I got all but one correct on the practice and ended up receiving a 660 on the exam. There were many other contributing factors though…

for physics I got like 4-5 wrong out of 18 questions and randomly ended up with an 800 lol.

this was really helpful :)

I found this SAT II Literature guide online: http://www.xtremepapers.com/SAT/SAT%20II%20Success%20Literature.pdf</a>
How helpful is it? How similar are the practice tests on it similar to the actual tests?

i too really need to know this!! how helpful are these papers which teenythainy just mentioned
