How to balance APs, ECs, college applications, and scholarships applications?

I'm currently taking 2 APs - Bio and Lit. Doesn't sound like a lot, but at my school, it is. I also have to apply to 4 colleges and various scholarships as well as work on my ECs. How did you guys manage your time? Any advice?

Don’t get on facebook, collegeconfidential, or gmail and just work on them.

^Sound advice.

I’m taking AP Biology, AP Environmental Studies, AP Chemistry, AP English and Composition, AP Statisitcs. AP Pyschology, AP Spanish, I’m class president, I’m on the basketball team, and football team, i’m in 5 clubs, I read to kids on the weekends, I go to towns and help raise awareness for cystic fibrosis, and I can handle it. Then again, what matters the most is that type of student you are… good luck!

I took 7 APs (English Lit, Government, microecon, computer science, calculus AB, Spanish Lang, Physics C), volunteered at the library, tutored, was president of an on-campus club, taught children’s bible study and worked at a children’s program at my church, applied to 9 schools and several scholarships my senior year. How I made it? I didn’t have a facebook. I reactivated it at the end of the school year. Don’t go on CC. Don’t go on tumblr. Turn of the internet when you’re working. Set your priorities. Make a list every morning of things you need to get done. And get them all done. ALL done. Don’t go out as much as you used to. FOCUS. It’s only for a little while. Keep focused, and afterwards, you’ll be able to enjoy yourself again.

4 APs, 2 comm college classes, after school symphony, president of two clubs, internship, city government-teen link, forest steward, and I walk home.

How do I survive? I don’t. I sleep at 2 am and live off Starbucks. I procrastinate heavily and do hw at 6pm on. Unlike the focused workaholics above, I am NOT them, and its painful at times.

My advice; start strong, stay strong, end strong. A blip in performance brings down the momentum. Get your sleep, and do hw as early as possible, even if you stay in the library after school.

Work on school work when you get home from your activities. Then work on your essays right after that and on the weekends. Once you get your common app done, the supplements shouldn’t be too bad. But you still have a few months to work on essays until the deadline. Worry about scholarships after you submit college apps…they’re normally offered in the spring. You have the time. Don’t worry, just do.
