How to colleges look at GPA?

My GPA blows, mainly because I screwed up sophomore year. Junior year, which I had the hardest courses, I also had my best GPA.

My cumulative GPA is a 3.1, if I say get a 4.0 GPA for the first marking period of senior year, and then send my college applications, would they factor in the 4.0, making my GPA a 3.55, or would they still look at the 3.1?

I want to go to PSU main campus for engineering, and I know that my GPA will screw me over, but how will they look at it?

Thanks!

First, your cum GPA would not be a 3.55: (3.13 years + 4.00.5 years). Second, they will factor it in.
