My son's sport is soccer and at his high school, there is a class period every day for soccer. So, that's an hour a day for every week of the school year. However, in December, they start before-school practices, which would make it closer to 2 hours per day. Then in January, they'll start playing in tournaments and regular-season games, plus early-morning practices, so it would bump up to perhaps 12-14 hours per week, from January through March.

So, how do you indicate your "activity hours" for a sport, when the hours increase just before and during the actual season? Thanks!

hours spent during the regular school day and in a class that shows up on the transcript are not counted as EC hours. so the 5 hours per week in class for soccer will not be listed. Just count the hours that are in addition to that. As with all activities that are not consistent throughout the year, just do the best you can. Some people divide total hours into total weeks, and some estimate in other ways. just try to be consistent so the adcoms get a sense of which activities take up the most time, and don’t overdo the numbers.
