I am wondering because I used to drink coffee a lot since most of my friends do, and it does boost up my energy level a lot. However coffee also makes me feel anxious, paranoid sometimes and nervous a lot for no reason. Thus I swtich to tea which has less self- anxious or nervous effect, but it also have less energy boost effect on me. So what do you guys usually drink or do to boost up enregy and how it works. I also tried working out but I can only do it once a week since exceed this level will be too much for me. thanks a lot!
I drink both but my coffee is about 1/3 regular and 2/3 decaf. As far as working out, maybe take walk outside for 15-30 minutes. A stroll to clear your mind and get your body moving. Of course, try to eat right and get enough rest.
Walking works, just moving around can help me sometimes. Also, this is dangerous, but if you’re falling asleep in a lecture or something and you’re allowed to have food, nuts or something else small and healthy usually can wake my up. As for drinks, coffee sometimes, but usually energy drinks are more my style. Though I must have a very high tolerance or something because I can throw one of those back and nothing even happens.
You’re basically getting side effects from caffeine in a dose-dependent manner. If you switch to a different method of caffeine delivery (e.g. from coffee to tea) you are still taking caffeine and it will generally have the same side effects.
Aside from the other tricks like light exercise, fresh air, cold water on your face, one thing you could try is chocolate. Chocolate has a small amount of caffeine and a much larger amount of something called theobromine, which is very closely related to caffeine and is a stimulant but has somewhat different effects. So, it’s possible that theobromine might work better for you than caffeine.
Remember that dark chocolate will have more theobromine than milk chocolate (and maybe fewer calories as well?). I like very dark chocolate so I would start with maybe 2 oz (56 g) of that and go up or down depending on the effect. If I eat a moderate amount of dark chocolate it definitely wakes me up.
I drink frappacinos and other “fake coffees” to get me going. I haven’t noticed any real negative impacts (except the dwindling money in my account).
I also was big on soda but I didn’t like how it made me break out so I’ve been cutting it out of my diet.
I also tried Monster energy drinks as well as protein drinks w/ caffeine in them, both made me super anxious and hyper.
If coffee is causing side effects, I would suggest you avoid energy drinks.
I stopped drinking caffeinated beverages 2 yrs ago for health reasons. Exercise reslly helps…stepping in place, taking a short walk around my building, chewing gum, using stress lotion (bath & body), my pump it up playlist
Hi Conceptcat:
Thanks for your reply and advice. I know that tea contains cafferine like coffee does, but how come I feel much less anxious or paraoid when drinking tea? I have different feeling for those but I dont know what’s the reason behind it. And does eat choclate too sweet for health purpose? thanks a lot!
I can drink tea all day every day. I can have a cup right before bed without issues.
I hate coffee, and can only drink it heavily laced with Kahlua… so none at work, lol
Hi bjkmom: I agree with you. Recently i switched to tea some days a week, feeling much better than consuming coffee. However I believe the boost effect of tea is a bit less than coffee, and I used to love Kahlua too!
I generally have a cup of coffee with half and half in the mornings and then switch to tea with lemon (no milk). I am trying to cut back on soda (my kids affectionately refer to me as “the DIET Coke fiend”) and I am doing pretty well by using crystal light iced tea mix instead. I live and work in a state of constant exhaustion due to stress over money issues.
