I play the violin, and I play/practice on my own time as a soloist as well as in youth orchestras and all state orchestras. I have accomplishments/awards for youth orchestras as well as solo stuff and I doubt it's all going to fit in one activity spot on the app. Thus, should I break violin into two activities (solo and orchestra)?

Should I even include all state since it only lasts for a weekend? Also, I have been nominated for All Eastern (not sure if I can get in)- is this important enough to put down? Thanks :)

Yes definitely include all eastern and all state those are huge accomplishments. The way i did it last year was by grouping. I had for example: school music, extracurricular music (this was my youth orchestra, summer music (summer camps), volunteer music, music awards and competitions (this is where all state goes, district band, all eastern, concerto competitions etc). I would split out solo and youth orchestra into two separate activities.

@guineagirl96 Should I include school orchestra stuff since it’s technically not “out-of-school”?

yes. you can elaborate on if you’ve been say, concertmaster, or if you’ve done any special school competitions or festivals.

@guineagirl96 So I should split into: school, solo/competitions, youth orchestra? Thanks :D

yes, that’s what i would do. I unfortunately didn’t keep my exact ECs section from last year, but I believe that’s pretty close to what i did

Here is what my kid did with something like this. Put down the EC as “Violin” and then “See Additional Information section” in the comment. Then in the EC section put something like:

Extra Curriculars - Violin
- 9th - 12th - High school orchestra, first violin 11th-12th
- 9th - 12th - Mixton Community Youth Orchesta
- 10th - Interlochen summer music camp, 4 weeks
- 9th - Blue ribbon at Solo & Ensemble for solo performance

You get the idea. This allows you to bullet out your accomplishments as a group without disrupting the flow by creating more than 1 EC, and you can list everything. Definitely list being nominated for All Eastern. (If you get in, email the colleges where your app has already gone it to let them know you have been accepted, and ask them to please consider this additional information along with the rest of your application).

One more thing- our youth orchestra worked with a composer and premiered some of his pieces. How should I type that out?

Well… that isn’t really your accomplishment, it is the composer’s. Not so different than playing a piece by a known composer, IMHO. Unless you had a specific role in working with him (representing the violin sections in initial meetings or something… dunno what that might be, but maybe you did something extra beyond what other orchestra members did).
