@sdsupride, to get to the 1000 EI for ACT, you need a 32 on the ACT. Again, not saying you have no chance, but unless you apply, you will never know and to have some backup schools on your list including your in-state school as a safety. Ask your parents directly, you they afford the costs? You can only take out a total of $27K/4 years worth a loans. The rest of the burden will fall to your parents. Although SDSU is a great school, is it worth $120K with a large amount of debt involved?
Ugh!!! I just really want to go to school in California. I hate Tennessee and really want to live somewhere more liberal.
I would also like to add, that if you try to get into an impacted campus like SDSU (all majors are impacted) by selecting an “easier” major, it may backfire. Psychology is not only competitive, but one of the more popular majors at the CSU’s. In 2015, Psychology had 3417 applicants with 999 admits (29% acceptance rate). 2016 numbers are not posted, but I am sure it is higher. The average EI for Psychology last year was around 1010.
I think the University of New Mexico is a very good option. Albuquerque is a great a city and New Mexico as a state would be completely different than current home.
Thank you very much for all the info Gumbymom. I will probably end up attending New Mexico. I at least want to live in San Diego one day.
@sdsupride: There is no reason you cannot consider grad school or jobs in San Diego once you get your BA/BS.
Good Luck to you.
Thank you.
It sounds like you need to recover from your vacation.
I agree with @Gumbymom, come back after you have your BA/BS. You don’t want to be in debt in San Diego.
FYI: San Diego is very conservative (lots of retirees and former military) and has only recently started to change. Still on the conservative side. LA and SF/Bay area are more liberal.
Yeah I am considering University of New Mexico or University of Montana. Thanks for all the info.
San Francisco is too expensive.
Look into the University of Arkansas
No. I want to leave the south. University of New Mexico is my safety anyway
Good luck!
I am signed up for the September and October Act. Please pray that I can get a +26 Act score. I want to go to SDSU so bad!!!
@sdsupride: You will need an ACT score of around 32 to be competitive with an EI of 1000+. Study hard and try your best. Good Luck.
Haha Ik. I am honestly not planning on attending here. I am trying Arizona State, New Mexico, and Florida International in Miami.
I was wrong about my eligibility index. It is a 3.5 weighted. Any greater chance?
An EI of 940 might get you in. It is worth an application if you have your heart set on SDSU. Just remember with 83,000 applications last year, it is still a tough admit.
49% of admitted applicants had unweighted GPA’s of 3.75 or higher. Average UW GPA was 3.69 for last year.
You above the 25th percentile for ACT but below the 50th. If you can bump up your SAT to 30+, your chances would definitely increase.
SDSU attracts highly qualified students each year. For fall 2015 admitted freshmen, the averages were:
3.83 high school GPA
26 ACT (not including writing)
1169 SAT reasoning (critical reading and math)
Thank You. I really feel like a 27 on the ACT could get me in some programs there. I just need to know which major to apply to to get in.
All majors are impacted at SDSU, so there is no easy major to “get in”. I will give you a link for all SDSU’s majors broken down by the # of applicants/#admitted and #matriculated for each major. You can go through and pick an “easier” major, the issue will be can you switch later into your desired major if you are admitted into that “easier” major.
Since all majors are impacted, you enter SDSU as a Pre-major and you must meet GPA requirements for required courses for each major to continue in that particular major and be eligible to take upper division courses. Also Undeclared is impacted.
Have you considered Cal State San Marcos? It is located about 35 miles from San Diego and would probably be easier to be accepted there. The cost of living would be less than San Diego too. If you didn’t have a car you could use the Sprinter and Coaster trains to visit San Diego at the weekends.
