I am an out of state applicant, applied for the Fall 2015 semester. I have a CSU GPA of 3.58 and an eligibility index of 3884. I've also applied to CSU Northridge. Could someone let me know how much of a chance I have getting in to either?

What is your intended major? Many impacted majors will require a EI of 4100+ such as STEM, Nursing and Business.

CSUN: Match
SDSU: High Match/Low Reach (Depending upon your major)

My intended major is Psych (BA) and alternate is Kinesiology (Fitness Specialist) (BS)

Would the fact that I’m out of state, hurt or help my chances at all?

It’s a CSU they’ll let anyone in.

Everyone is allowed to post an opinion but @KaitlynW, the above poster @DickCheney has a major chip on his shoulder and has stated on CC that enjoys feeling superior to posters on this forum. Ignore him.

SDSU is the 2nd most competitive Cal State, behind Cal Poly SLO, so being OOS and full pay will help you. Unfortunately SDSU does not post their EI threshold like SJSU, so only speculation and past results can be used to determine where their cutoff for each major will be. Psych is again another popular major, so all you can to do is apply and hope for the best.

Good Luck

@KaitlynW The average Freshman GPA is 3.69. This means you’re slightly low GPA-wise for admissions (need to make up for it with the SAT). If you come from a community college however you may have a chance even with a 2.5.
You’ll definitely be okay with CSUN unless you have a spectacularly bad semester.
Since many CSUs are the same I suggest CSU Dominguez Hills. It’s on the same tier as Cal Poly SLO or SDSU.

CSU Dominguez Hills cannot compare to the Cal Poly SLO or SDSU. Their average GPA is 3.02 and not considered one of the better Cal States. For the Freshman Class of 2014, the average CSU GPA for SDSU was 3.82 and for Cal Poly SLO (Depending upon the colleges), it ranged from a 3.82 (College of Agriculture) to 4.12 (College of Engineering). @KaitlynW is an incoming Freshman for Class of 2015.

@KaitlynW All CSU’s are in the exact same system and if you’re going back to your home state after college no one will know the difference between the CSUs and their local prestige. Whether you go to Dominguez Hills, CSUEB, Fresno, Sacramento, SLO, or SDSU no one will care in your home state. They will see “CSU” and “Bachelor’s degree”. The only time a different CSU matters here is if you stay in state and even then most employers don’t keep up with rankings so they won’t know the difference.

Thanks for the feedback you guys, I appreciate it!

Listen to Gumbymom, and IGNORE Dick Cheney. And honestly, are you going to believe in anyone named Dick Cheney. He is just trying to pass his random lies off as facts.

Firstly, not all CSUs are viewed the same by industry, some CSUs are more favored for certain types of hiring (e.g. engineering). Secondly, companies are aware of the relative rankings/strengths of various universities, it is the job of their human resource department to know.

Thirdly, there is a huge variation in terms of admission requirements between CSUs such as Cal Poly SLO, and CSUN as an example.

<a href=“Cal Poly Admissions”>Cal Poly Admissions;

Lastly, there is also a substantive difference in post graduation earnings for different CSUs.

<a href=“Best Public Colleges | Payscale”>http://www.payscale.com/college-salary-report/best-schools-by-type/bachelors/public-schools

For example, Cal Poly SLO is ranked #13 in post-graduation earnings for all US public universities.

One last thing, if you graduate from Cal Poly, your diploma will have Cal Poly spelled out in full, not CSU.

What is the most competitive CSU after SLO and SDSU specifically for business?

CSULB which is looking for an EI around 3800 and then Chico @ 3700

Would anyone happen to know how competitive the film program is at SDSU? I’m also trying to get in.

Check the Freshman admits from last year vs applications received on this link:

What are my chances of getting into SDSU as a transfer student from a CC with a GPA of 3.2 ( after fall semester it will be much higher) and a major on Criminal Justice, I know is impacted and need a 2.8 minimum

Thanks

Oh forgot to mention dose it matter if applicants are local do they have priority? Because Im from sacramento
