This is actually pretty sad. I'm a junior and I still don't know how to get into an AP class. My school is kinda weird, we have 2 days to go ask our teachers for class recommendations and they sign a paper saying that they recommend you for a specific class. They have to do this for AP but I was wondering how sophomores or freshman take AP classes? I really need to take 2 to raise my gpa next year. Please help!!

The best person to ask is your school counselor, as every school sets its own rules and procedures regarding AP classes. At my kids’ school, for instance, anyone can take an AP class as long as their parents have signed a permission slip. You just select the class and you’re in. I know of other schools where students must be invited to take AP classes.

You’re middling GPA has kept you off the radar of your GCs and teachers up to this point as being a serious student. Like Jea828 said, you need to meet your GC this week and ask for guidance. No one on these boards can advise you better than him/her. Your GPA in a non-rigorous schedule will severely limit your options college-wise. One more bit of advice: the schools you’ll eventually apply to will NOT consider any of your ECs. No one is going to look at your EC list/resume at the schools you’ll be targeting. Whatever time you spend on them that takes away from your bettering your next semester’s grades or ACT/SAT, is actually only hurting yourself. Good luck. Make sure you get CLEAR answers from your GC and don’t leave until you do

Go talk to your GC as soon as possible. Also, you are not going to raise your GPA by taking AP (although it may if weighted). You will increase the rigorous of your curriculum which is crucial for applying to better schools and may help you to get some credits for college from AP exam.
