How to get into Haas? (Besides grades)

Hi guys, I’m an upcoming freshman and I have a question about Haas

  • Does Haas care about what kind of activities you do during the summer before college?

I heard that Haas cares mostly about what you do during your first 2 years at Cal, so does that mean there is no point of getting a job or an internship this summer before I become a freshman? I’m currently a librarian and I’ve been working at a library for the past 2 years. Would this help at all or since I’m quitting soon should I look for an internship also?

Thanks for reading!

The assumption is that what you do later in college will be more significant, but sure it matters about what you do before freshman year.
It’s not a matter of what job you have/did, but explaining how your work as a librarian shows why you want to go to Haas.
For example, your could describe your experience as a librarian that you learn how to keep things organized without the excessive time or money pressure which is a gentle way to get started in the world of business, and other things you learned as a librarian.
It would be excellent to explain what you want to get out with your business degree and what do you look forward in your career which also should be good guidance on what kind of internship you want to look for.
So yes, I think it matters what kind of activities you do during the summer, but if only if you can substantiate your experience. A lot of folks desire to have the best experience in the best company, whatever that means, but I think any experience is possible to spin it off as long as it’s relevant for you and you’re doing what you like.

Also, chances of you getting an internship without getting a least a couple years of college under your belt are pretty slim for a business major. I do think it’s the spin that you put on your experiences that can help. I’d keep doing what you’re doing, try for internships for next summer, with the knowledge that it may not happen for until the summer between your sophomore and junior year.
