How to go from 730 to 800 on CR?

Help me, please? How did you get 800?

There is no REAL way. I suggest you read some of the guides here that have been posted to help get a better picture of what to do (xiggi, silver, etc.)

i will try to give some insight. I got a 700 on the CR and thought I could improve it. Basically I just memorized vocab. i got a princeton review flash card box as well as the top 250 hardest words on the SAT from sparknotes and memorized over the course of a month or two. that brought my score up to a 800 =)

Went from 740 to 800:

Alright thanks guys. I’m retaking 730/760/800/11 because I feel that CR SHOULD be my highest section but when I sit down with the blue book I struggle a little bit. I’m going to try to grab some flash cards to knock those out I guess.

I actually went from a 680 (in June) to an 800 (in October) basically just by practicing a doing a bunch of practice tests. I studied vocab A LOT since that was definitely my weakness, so I would recommend that. And for me just being exposed to more tests and more passages made me comfortable and successful.

Went from 710>720>800.

For me, it was most important to remember to choose not only the best answer (i.e. you should be comparing the answers), but the one that seems like the CollegeBoard would like.

I went from a 60 CR on the 2009 PSAT to an 800 CR on the Oct. 9 2010 SAT.

Take a few tests and look at the questions you missed. Why did you miss them? If it was vocab, study vocab. If you over-analyzed the question and answers, try to remember you are prone to doing that. If you have trouble with Main Idea questions, or Point of View questions, or other kinds of Inference questions, learn what they look like and be on your guard when you hit them. In other words, learn specifically what you are doing wrong, and then fix it. Remember, too, that you need to look at the reason why the wrong answer you chose was wrong and why the right answer was right. (Wrong answers are called ‘distractors’ for a reason. For example, ETS likes to use a salient term from the passage in a half-right distractor, and then use a synonym for that term in the correct answer choice. The half-right info and the familiar term can make you jump to that answer before you really understand what it says.)

Any last minute suggestions? Didn’t really study vocab like I planned to, so I’m just gonna do a couple of practice tests out of the blue book and wing it. Crossing my fingers that I’ll grab those ten extra points (or more) to get me to 2300+.

Edit: On my two SATs I got 4 W, 0 O = 730 and 6 W, 0 O = 710… is that about normal?

Well, the first one is a -5 raw score; the other one is a -6 raw score. That sounds about right.
