Hey all,
I'm currently a rising junior, and I am going to take the PSAT in late October and the SAT in November. I was hoping that someone could give me some tips to increase my SAT/PSAT critical reading score. So far, the average has been around 650, 600 at the lowest, and 690 at the highest. I've already started to read and memorize vocabulary from the Direct Hits Vocab book and the Fiske Word Power book. I've also began to read articles from the New York Times and Time Magazine. Is there anything else I should do? Is it just tons and tons of practice?

i think you should really take some of your free time to read books and basically practice and practice

Read newspapers: short articles from Wall Street Journal or New York Times will suffice. Just read an article before bed on whatever interests you.

Memorize all 400 words of Direct Hits: just get both volumes. and make flashcards.

Take notes while reading long passages. (the notes only have to be a word or two. just the main idea of the paragraph.). Also for paired passages: read the first passage, answer all the questions for the first passage. Read the second passage, do all of its questions. Then do the questions that ask about both passages.
