depends on what type of English accent you are trying to get.
In the US there are many diff. accents which can broadly be categorized into
- Southern accent (slow, laidback, more 'rounding' of vowels)
- Yankee (fast paced, as if there is no tomorrow)
- Mid-western (without any obvious accent)
- Californian (=spanish :D)

southern and yankee accents are VERY difficult to get unless u live there for years. Mid-western is the most logical choice and I know that there are institutions in India (and other countries) which teaches you that. The other way is to rent out american movies or tv programs and repeat every sentence alongwith the cast.

Personally, i dont believe that losing accent is imp. US is a country of immigrants and in a group of 10 ppl you will find 5 accents.

I concur as long as you make yourself understood, you dont need to do anything. Anyway accent is somethin which you have developed over the years its very hard to get rid of it.staying here for 4-5 years would help some but in some cases your accent is yours to keep!

Over here we do and they are actually quite good at it. You can't tell if it's a bonafide american speaking or an Indian.<<

Some of the time maybe. Or maybe some of those schools are better than others. Because I get calls from Indian call centers regularly, and it's easy to tell in many cases that they are Indians trying to speak with American accents.

no matter how hard u try, u wont be able to get rid of ur accents completely ...cuz seriously, think about it, u have spoken ur native language for 10 to 15 years, and its very hard -actually impossible -to get rid of ur accents in 1 or 2 years...
and please dont worry about ur accents cuz as u know, the u.s. is a country with immigrants from all over the world, and everyone of them speaks english with his/her own accents. if u worry too much about ur accents u will be stressed out and be reluctant to speak with others. so just relax
