Hi everyone! So, I took the act last december and got a 31(29E, 34M, 33R, 29S) Im happy with this score, but I really want to try and get it up to a 34 in order to be more in line with some of the colleges I’m considering applying to. Also, I constantly felt like I was running out of time especially with science and english and i think i couldve done a lot better in these sections given the time. But I don’t know if using a watch would be a good idea for me because I’m not used to it and would only have roughly less than a month(yeah im taking the april act) to get used to timing myself. Also, I have this bad feeling that i would go to the test center and my watch wouldn’t work and that would totally throw me off lol! For anyone who used a watch can you tell me if you felt it was a deciding factor in your composite score? Should i waste time worrying about timing or worry more about material? Also, anyone have any tips on increasing my score overall without using a watch if I decide not to?
What are your practice scores without time constraints?
How many minutes over do you go?
You don’t need a watch to move faster through the questions, you need practice.
@yzamyatin My practice scores honestly go all over the place like one day I’ll get a 34 on the english, next day back down to a 29. English I’m ok with time unless I get stuck on a problem and waste a lot of time then I’m rushing through the rest and it’s just bad. The science though I just don’t know how work fast through them I always run out of time. Usually I’m at the last section of science with only two minutes left and I have to guess on at least half those questions in that section. One of my friends suggested a watch that’s why I’m considering it but honestly it’s sounding like a worse and worse idea every time I think about it
Ok, so it seems that there may be one or two or more grammar rules you are not clear on. If this is the case you need to nail down those rules, and the time problem will fix itself.
For science there is no one strategy that works for everyone. Some find success in going straight to the questions. This frequently solves the timing issue, but only for those that are able to get to the answer without getting bogged down in all the extraneous detail. Practice is the key here as well.
