Hi! Next week, I'm meeting with the head of Upper School Admissions at a private day school that I really, really want to attend. My chance of admission is already looking great, but I'm wondering how I should prepare. What type of questions will I be asked and what should I wear? Thanks!

You can expect to be asked:
- what you have liked about your current school
- what interests you about the school you are applying to
- about any sports you play
- about activities that interest you outside of school.

I’m guessing you are a girl from your username. There are several threads on this topic that you can review for a wider range of opinions. When my daughter was interviewing, most girls seemed to wear a blouse/skirt or blouse/pants (not jeans) with dressy flats. Generally, the look seemed to be slightly more conservative than you would typically see at school.

In my interview I was asked:

1) what is your greatest weakness
2) your favorite subject
3) what is your greatest characteristic
4) Also expect when they ask you about your hobbies to talk more about it (go into it)

Thank you, all! This is all quite helpful… Anyone else?

You’ll also be asked if you have any questions about the school.
We attended a few group information sessions where I was amazed to see kids asking questions with answers easily available on the school’s website (“are exams before Christmas?”“how long is winter break?”“do you offer girl’s soccer?”“do you offer Latin?”).

just wear something presentable. dont get too worried about it. maybe have a friend practice the questions with you beforehand. i did that and it helped me to form answers and relax a little.

relax. just relax. what you wear depends on when. will it be warm or cold? just wear something presentable.

Dress like you already are a student there. Look at the website and get a feel for the clothing. EXCEPT - if the students wear jeans, then go business casual instead. My daughter wore a conservative suit (but not an austere or stuffy one). She seemed to get more attention than the students showing up in casual clothing.

It’s an interview. Be yourself because you want to be admitted to the school that fits “you”, not the figment of your imagination that shows up because everyone tells you to be something else.
