How to prepare for MIT, Harvard, Princeton...

Hey guys how should we start preparing for MIT, Harvard,.......

By realizing that you can't "prepare" for them. Admissions at such schools aren't tests that you can prep for and get through. What you can do is look at the stats of people who got accepted this and last year, compare to yours and see where you need to improve. This also is silly as they accept people with "worse" stats yet reject people with "better" stats, but it's a start.

thanks man

Do you require financial aid or can you pay everything btw? If you can pay in full and have excellent stats you have a much higher chance of getting in as compared to someone who DOES require substantial aid.

^^ MIT, Harvard, Princeton (the ones mentioned) are actually need-blind though, even for international applicants. So requiring substantial aid will not affect your chances of being admitted.

The other need-blind schools for internationals are Yale, Middlebury and Williams.

Even Princeton? I didn't know.

go cure cancer in africa

Why just Africa?

Essays should reflect you. As far as possible include only academic and things related to your interest( i.e your major).
Something I learned from my mistakes.
Take AP, IB Exams and if possible get into NON-CBSE School.

@ S33D: cuz it sounds good on an app :P

Going to Africa is extreme,

What's wrong about CBSE school libindaniel2000 ?

ya what's wrong with a cbse school?

^ Nothing. If you're at the top of your class in CBSE, it's fine.

Nothing is wrong. But being in AP or IB school is just loads better.
Almost every teacher knows how things are to be done.
In many CBSE( not all) schools, teachers don't know a thing about procedures required for undergrad in such colleges.
Transcripts, recommendations, attestations and many other things.
That's it...Besides, AP and IB schools provide a plethora of activities.

Basically, just take initiative and use your resources in the best way possible. Be passionate about what you do. That's all you need to do.

hmm, let's see:
Be an olympiad winner (know three friends who are), conduct extensive research, or maybe start your own business (I'm planning to). And those won't get you HYP for certain anyways.

^ I know more than three people who have none of the above. To get into an Ivy, you have to have a few dedicated ECs, high SATs, high GPA and an honest and uniquely written essay. Also, you should have atleast two teachers who you know will write you exceptional LORs. The rest, as they say, is a crapshoot.

lol, i just like scaring a new member.

Being passionate, thanks tetrisfan

score well on the sat, toefl. cajole your school principal so he'll write good recommendation letters. dedicate yourself to some EC and get some awards from it. work on your essays and ask someone to read and revise over and over. figure out some unique talents and develop those early.
